6 more weeks (on average). You just never know!Sure, it feels chilly out there this Labor Day, but how close are we seeing snow falling from the sky? The photo below shows the last 30 snow seasons and the overall first, average, and last dates the Marquette NWS office sees an inch of snow or greater. The number on the far right shows a rough estimate of about how long that winter season lasted, in terms of the number of days between the first inch of snow and the last. Overall we are 1 month and 2 weeks out from the average first date of 1 inch of snowfall. #906wx ... See MoreSee Less

In regards to planning, check out some brief comments from the Mid West Ski Events meeting: youtu.be/f07x6pFY8a4 . Make your plans to get ready for winter!
Are you curious about what ski racing and events might look like this winter? We are, along with 5 of the other staples of nordic ski events in the Mid West, hosting a forum where we will be discussing how each of our unique events will be adapting this winter. Our priority will be hosting safe events that participants can feel comfortable attending - and yes, they might end up looking a little different this year. This group has committed to each other with information sharing, best practices, and the idea that our events are important to our communities and the sport at large. We are working together to help ensure we bring something you can be excited about and get you and/or your family out skiing this winter. Participating in this forum is the Noquemanon Ski Marathon, Vasaloppet USA, Great Bear Chase, SISU Ski Fest, The Loppet Foundation, and American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation. Of particular interest is that our own Race Director has been at the forefront of the military response to COVID in the state of Michigan. With this leadership our events will be positioned to reduce unnecessary touch points in a strategic way so participants can feel safe while taking part in great events, support the sport, the communities our events are in, and the trail systems our events are on. The first update is available for you to view here: youtu.be/HhJfTxcddsM
With the cancellation of most fundraising events this year the NTN is in need of funds. Check out the NTN Trailraiser and see where you can help! Our event is a fundraiser for the NTN and luckily we got the 2020 edition in before the pandemic took hold in the US. The ski marathon is just one event of many and the only one to take place in 2020.Want to be a Trailraiser? Learn more here: go.rallyup.com/ntntrailraiser... See MoreSee Less
