The North American Junior VASA Races Prove To Be FUN and Successful For Young Cross Country Skiers of ALL Ages

Young cross country ski racers from as far away as Pennsylvania and as young as 2 ½ years old participated Saturday afternoon in the Junior VASA. Junior skiers ages 7 and under skied the 1km course. Skiers 8-15 skied the longer and more challenging (but very skiable and user friendly) 2km trail.
As all of the Junior VASA participants cross the finish line they received a North American VASA Championship Medal. The Junior VASA is all about participation. The event is not timed. All finishers are winners. The entry has always been a super value at only $5.00 per skier. VASA goody bag included.
“Junior Vasa skiers will be the Vasa skiers of the future,” states Pete LaPlaca, Executive Director of the North American Vasa. “Hopefully they’ll remember the fun they had on skis in this event, and continue the sport for their entire lives. The smiles on these kid’s faces are our reward.”
The North American VASA is recognized for its meticulous trail grooming and excellent ski conditions. The Jr. VASA receives the same quality attention. Trail grooming for both Jr. VASA courses were again performed by Timber Ridge Resort and Nordic Center’s grooming experts.
The date for the 2012 North American Junior VASA is Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SNOW
Pine Knob has one of the best snow crews in Michigan. We turned on the snow machines again last night and with the colder temps this week, we'll be making even more snow. We're already 100% open. But we want moguls, bigger jumps, and a solid base to last into March. Thanks to Jaymo for sending in this photo with the caption "One of my favorite views." Ours too buddy, thanks for sharing.

The Wright's Lake section will be groomed tomorrow. Thank you Dan Godwin for grooming trails during the night so everyone can enjoy them today. Skiing conditions are very good !!

Finished up my eastern portion of the quest boyne.mountain - got to ride with d_vibb and explore the area. Small resort on the back side of Lake Michigan, little park setup, fun sky bridge, cool village. The mid mountain cabin was the highlight. Pretty cool vibe there. Obviously had to stop for Wisconsin cheese curds and a s’mores milkshake. Time to head west

We're open today from 9AM to 9PM with two sessions (9-5:30 & 3-9). We have 10 runs open, including our entire beginner area, terrain park features on the front side, and our advanced runs are open. The "Quarter Mile" and the backside are NOT open yet, we need a lot of snow to open those areas and Mother Nature is taking her sweet time bringing winter to us. We're making the most of what we have and we're having fun at Pine Knob.

We'll open for skiing and snowboarding 3PM-10PM this week - Monday thru Friday - with the business office opening at 12 noon those days. Then, for the weekend we'll run our regular hours and session times.
