Mackinac Island Cross Country Skiing
The Mackinac Island Ski club grooms trails on the east and north side of the Island in Mackinac Island State Park.
The cross country ski trails wind through the pristine woods of Mackinac Island State Park and allow the winter visitor to see all of the natural and historical landmarks of the island.
You can follow the ski trails to the interior of the island and take in the vistas from the highest point on the island at Fort Holmes. Or ski through the woods to Arch Rock and enjoy the view of Lake Huron from the bluffs on the eastern side of the island.

Today's episode takes us back to the fur trade on Mackinac Island.
Just off the northern tip of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, where Lake Huron turns cold and clear, there’s an island that remembers. Beneath the postcard charm of Mackinac-- the fudge shops, the bicycles, the horse-drawn carriages-- lies a history far older and far deeper.
Before it was a tourist destination, it was a center of trade. A crossroads between worlds. And at the heart of it all was Magdelaine La Framboise, a Métis fur trader, Odawa woman, and entrepreneur who built one of the most successful trading empires in the Great Lakes.
Her story is one of power, loss, and legacy, a woman navigating between languages, faiths, and nations at a time when few women held any authority at all. She retired to Mackinac Island decades before it became the place we know today, leaving behind a church, a school, and a memory that the island still carries.
This is the story of the woman who kept the island alive long before it became a souvenir.

The Spectrum team has been here this week using our island terminal as temporary headquarters while they work to upgrade some Internet and TV services on the Island. This morning, they were treated to fresh baked Cinnamon Rolls and Scones by island resident baker and all around amazing guy, Mark Bobinski! He made enough for the whole Spectrum crew and they were so very grateful! Back in the day, Mark owned a bakery and coffee shop at the head of the island dock and it was awesome having his treats around again today! Thank you, Mark! The Spectrum team really appreciated your generosity and consideration! ❤️⚓️💚
